HISTORY

History of Baraka Technical College

The great vision of rescuing children and fighting poverty was conceived inside the heart of Rev. John Katundu, the senior pastor of Deliverance Church Sofia. During his first missionary work in Kenya Eastern Province, Yatta Division in 1990 he witnessed an acute need in the community: Youths suffering from poverty lacking the opportunity of receiving education and therefore turning to risky sexual practices, prostitution and criminal actions to somehow make a living or others simply winding up loitering in the market streets. These overwhelming images touched the heart of Rev. John Katundu who then conceived the vision of an institution catering those needs. Hence the idea of Baraka Technical College was born.
As we know everything results from a vision and vision comes from God, however a vision does not provide you with a specific plan and the necessary resources.
“God gave Moses the vision to redeem Israel who had lived in captivity of Egyptians over 400 years.”
Moses never knew which way to choose or what food to give to 2.5 million people following one human being. However he trusted in God and God gave them the best food ever eaten by anyone in those days.
Similarly Rev. John Katundu did not know exactly how to implement his vision but he listened to the voice of God which was loud and clear and reminded him of the biblical verse:
Prov. 28:27 “He who gives to the poor will lack nothing.”
Thus he dedicated his talent as well as resources and shared his vision with his wife as well as local and international Christians to gain support – In 1990 he was able to put his vision into action.
